Social Media Marketing: In-House vs. Outsourcing
Over the past few years, social media marketing has transformed from a “nice to have” to an essential part of any digital marketing strategy. Most small businesses no longer question whether they need it, but how to go about implementing it; Should you outsource social media or keep it in house? There are pros and cons to both, and each business will have to choose which best benefits their unique needs.
Both Options Cost Money
As with any other matter in business, you get what you pay for. If you want to do social media marketing well, you’ll have to pay for quality. Smaller businesses with smaller budgets may want to consider starting their social media plan slowly to keep costs down. Larger corporations and companies have more flexibility with their options.
In-House Social Media Marketing
When you opt for in-house social media marketing, you’re ensuring that your team knows the business well. The in-house team wouldn’t take on other clients or work in a variety of fields. They’d understand your business on a deep level and would be able to craft a social media strategy that’s more specific to you.
However, creating a team or designating an individual that focuses only on social media marketing isn’t in some companies’ budgets or business plans. If social media isn’t a major part of your business, you may want to keep your in-house team focused on other things.
Outsourcing Social Media Marketing
If your company wants to take a more hands-off approach to social media marketing, outsourcing is the way to go. Social media management firms are fully dedicated to creating and executing a social media strategy for your business. They have the time and budget that you may not.
However, anyone you hire outside of your company will have to spend a good deal of time getting to know your business, your target audiences, and your social media goals. Even if they grasp the basic concepts of the business, you’ll still have to monitor what goes out to ensure that it aligns with the rest of your social media strategy.
